Superintendent Tommie Allen Murphy was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is the seventh of nine children born to Mr. James H. & Mrs. Mary A. Murphy. He was educated in the Public Schools of Asheville, NC. Superintendent Murphy was saved at the age of 18 and joined Garden of Prayer Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of Superintendent C.W. Johnson, Sr. It was there that he received the call into the Gospel Ministry at the age of 20.

Pastor Murphy graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with BA in Business and a concentration in Finance. He retired from his secular assignment after 27 years as Senior Vice President of Wachovia Bank. He presently resides in Charlotte, NC with his wife of over 26 years Lady Doris D. Murphy. They have two beautiful daughters; Trevira Nicole and Ericka Lenae Murphy.

Pastor Murphy served Pastor E. C. Cannon from 1984 to 1994. He served as co-pastor from 1989-1994. When God called his loyal servant home, Elder Murphy became the interim Pastor and in 1995 he was appointed the Pastor of New Bethel Church Of God In Christ. He is currently the Pastor of New Bethel Church Of God In Christ located in Charlotte.

Pastor Murphy serves as the Superintendent of the E.C. Cannon Memorial District and is an Administrative Assistant to Bishop Leroy Jackson Woolard of the Greater NC Jurisdiction Churches of God in Christ. He also serves as one of the Vice Chairman of the International Council of Pastors and Elders for the Churches of God in Christ Worldwide under the leadership of Chairman Derrick W. Hutchins.

Pastor Murphy is known for his uncompromising preaching and teaching messages which transcends all cultural as well as denominational barriers. Many souls have been saved, healed and delivered by Pastor Murphy's unique and insightful delivery of the word of God. He is endowed with wisdom and God has truly gifted him with the ability to reach people of varied backgrounds.

Pastor Murphy is saved and loves the Lord with all of his heart. He is an example to all who meet him of the love of God. His goal in life is to reach the lost and to equip and empower the saints for effective ministry.
